Artificial wedding flowers - are they a good idea?

If you're toying with the idea of choosing artificial flowers for your wedding, there are a number of pros and cons to consider.

Artificial wedding flowers have come on a long way and can now look just as good as real ones. So the look really isn't a factor any more.

However, one disadvantage is that don't have a scent, so you won't get that beautiful perfume that you'd have if you picked fresh blooms for your big day. Having said that, for many of us, that can be a huge pro - no insects following you around and no hay fever or allergies to worry about!

Artificial flowers can be ordered any time before the wedding and you don't have to worry about them spoiling or wilting before the date. You also have the reassurance that you actually have your flowers in time for the wedding which is not something every bride can say, unfortunately!

Artificial wedding flowers tend to be a bit cheaper than real flowers. The difference isn't as much as you'd expect, because the materials and technology to create the flowers has improved so much in recent times. However, it's likely if you go artificial, you'll make at least a small saving which is a big consideration if you're on a tight budget.

Artificial wedding flowers are far less sensitive and fragile than real wedding flowers, so they can be worked into bouquets and arrangements with ease. This gives your florist much more scope for creativity!

They are also more consistent that real flowers which, because they are natural, are subject to flaws and blemishes.

If you're getting married abroad, artificial will be an easy choice. They are light and easy to transport, allowing you to plan, buy and take all of your flowers with you, and bring them home too! If you use a local florist instead, you have no guarantees that things will go to plan and you will likely not be allowed to bring home your bouquet.

Finally - a huge plus of artificial wedding flowers is that you can keep them forever! They won't wilt or fade easily so you can either have them on display or save them as a beautiful momentum of your big day.
