There is a huge variance in quality when it comes to artificial flowers. High quality silk flowers can be very close to the real thing and often come with wired petals and leaves, allowing you to position them as you choose and thereby giving them a more realistic appearance. Up very close silk flowers will typically be distinguishable from the real thing, however.
Latex flowers are typically the most expensive type of artificial flower - the surface of the latex is very smooth like a real flower and in contrast with fabric flowers where the texture is obvious up close.
Sometimes other materials are used to add detail and realism to more expensive artificial flowers. Velvet for example is used to imitate the stamen in the centre of the flower - the fuzzy appearance looks similar to the real thing which would usually be loaded with pollen.
Artificial flowers are available as a single stem with one flower or several flowers. You can save money by purchasing a single stem with several buds, if this suits the length of flowers that you're looking for.
