I’ve never been very good at gardening (or keeping plants alive generally) and all attempts to create hanging baskets that produce beautiful blooms throughout the summer have been unsuccessful. Inevitably the flowers die, or look just miserable and frankly pathetic next to my neighbour’s carefully planted Chelsea-flower-show standard balls of bright pink fuchsias.
So when I found out that you could buy artificial hanging baskets of flowers that not only look impressive but last as long as you dare leave them out (before the neighbours start getting suspicious) I was pretty pleased with myself and I’ve been an artificial-flower-hanging-basket convert ever since.
Here are my top 4 favourite artificial flower hanging basket buys:
4. Basket of pansies
If you like the traditional hanging basket look, these beautiful 12 inch artificial silk pansy hanging baskets are hand planted to order and look just like the real thing. They are lovely and bright with mixed shades of red, pink, white, yellow and blue, with flowers sprouting from all directions.
They are just perfect for people like me who are useless at keeping things alive, or for people who simply don’t have time for the maintenance that real flowers need to keep them looking their best.
Since putting mine up, I’ve had countless people comment on them and even feel them without realising they were artificial.
No need to water or deadhead of course – these will continue to look great throughout the whole season. They are made to last so you can get them out year after year and your neighbours will be none the wiser.
Buy these here (currently £44.99).
3. Boxwood ‘buxus’ ball
Okay, these artificial boxwood buxus balls aren’t strictly hanging baskets – but I wanted to include them as I think they make a fantastic and very classic-looking alternative to the usual colourful and sometimes rather garish choices.
They also offer incredible value and are far more affordable than the other hanging basket choices, both artificial and real, so if you’re on a budget and want to smarten up the outside of your house, these could be the choice for you.
These come as a set of two (hence offering really good value) and measure 23cm, arriving pre made with a hanging chain supplied. They are ready assembled and you don’t have to do much in the way of spreading them out to get them looking just like they do in the photo. Like my other choices, they do look very realistic and you have to get up pretty close to spot that they’re not the real deal.
You can buy these here, currently at just £19.99 for the pair.
2. Rose ball
This set of two 28cm balls of brightly coloured artificial roses are certainly statement pieces and will attract a lot of attention but for all the right reasons. I absolutely adore the colour and it attracts so many complements.
I love these because they offer the dazzling colour of traditional fuchsia baskets but they are really nice and neat, and of course they stay that way without any effort on your part!
They come ready attached to galvanised hanging chains and are created to last outdoors long term.
They also come fully assembled and just need the tinest bit of tweaking when you get them out the box to get them nice and even with no gaps between the flowers. No maintenance is needed after that and they look very realistic.

1. Lavender topiary
These gorgeous hanging baskets come as a set of two 30cm flower balls which are already assembled and supplied with the hanging chain (but not the bracket). This style looks especially nice either side of a traditional front door hung on simple iron brackets, as in the photo.
These are an easy choice for my number one spot, not only because they don’t look fake (unlike many artificial flower balls) but because they are a bit different in style than your average hanging basket – l like the use of lavender rather than your typical basket of pansies or fuchsias, it’s a lot more classy.
The purple colours are also really vivid and long lasting and I really like the use of just one colour – I think this is much more stylish than the other multicoloured choices.
You can buy this set here (currently £29.99) – and there’s also a larger 40cm set available here.
